Basic Electrical – Three-part Electrical Foundations Course

Almon Inc.’s Basic Electrical is an off-the-shelf technical course that leads technicians through a three-part learning experience. This three-part technical eLearning course was developed for a technician new to construction, agriculture, and outdoor power equipment industries. This is also a great course for the experienced technician in the skilled trades who would like a refresher course in basic electrical fundamentals.

Off the shelf lesson one emphasizes the importance of electrical safety, the science behind electricity, what exactly electricity is, and the three physical properties of electricity. An electrical course would not be complete without covering Ohm’s Law and the math behind the law. This is all explained using an easy-to-understand format complete with interactive animations.

This lesson also identifies and explains several electrical components a technician may come across and some of the more popular electromechanical components that may be seen during a normal workday.

Off the shelf lesson two explores the fundamentals of electrical circuits, identifying several different circuits a technician will be confronted with during a normal workday. Examples using Ohm’s Law to calculate voltage, current, and resistance in different types of circuits are walked through in detail and the basics of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams are covered.

Off the shelf lesson three identifies and describes the different tools used while working on electrical systems. Technicians are introduced to electrical troubleshooting and the diagnostic process. Emphasis is put on the importance of analyzing a problem in the least amount of time with minimum effort. Our interactive guidance into the basics of using a multimeter, understanding electrical repair procedures, and electrical troubleshooting is invaluable information.

Because of the involved nature of electrical systems, this off-the-shelf course is not intended to replace advanced, instructor-led, hands-on training, rather it serves as a foundation for additional training.
